International Association of Plant Bakers (AIBI) Congress

Understanding the brief

In 2019, the international bi-annual AIBI Conference was heading to Manchester, and Clear were asked to support the AIBI team on its successful delivery. Held over 3 days the event included a main conference, a partnership programme, evening socials and a gala dinner. Over 200 delegates travelled from all over the world to attend.

Clear were responsible for organising three dinners at three venues in the city centre: KMPG offices, Manchester Art Gallery and Gorton Monastery. Each one needed a different menu, look and feel and entertainment.

Night 1 – KPMG

As the first event, it was not clear how many people would attend as some people would still be travelling to Manchester. With this in mind, the evening was planned as a more relaxing social event, and all speeches done later in the evening to allow people time to arrive. We had Manchester themed bowl food using locally sourced produce to give everyone arriving a taste of the city on their first night.

Night 2 – Manchester Art Gallery

The evening started with guests having an exclusive tour of the gallery, with drinks and canapés served. On arrival at the venue, a brass band from Roberts Bakery were playing big band music which gave real impact. Later on, the band also performed a more up-tempo set which had everyone up dancing. Buffet style food was served allowing guests to mingle and chat.

Night 3 – Gorton Monastery

As the last night in the city, we wanted to put on a real show for people. Guests were picked up from the hotel in classic red double decker buses and taken to the venue. Champagne and canapés were served in the courtyard while a string quartet played and caricaturists and magicians entertained guests. A 4 course menu
 was served and guests were
 treated to a live performance
from the Manchester Camerata
 and gospel choir.
